DIVING WITH AUTISM

Scuba Diving is a new frontier that has been recognised as a fantastic activity for individuals on the spectrum.

Here at Marshall Scuba our Instructor Trainer (Kenneth), has been working with Autistic students in his school teaching career. And teaching scuba to students special needs divers dating back to 2005.

Recently, Kenneth as part of his own career development as a school educator & leader, completed the professional educator level Certified Autism Specialist programme with IBCCES.

This has meant that Marshall Scuba Swim & Safety, had the opportunity to join the growing number of Certified Autism Centers (CAC) around the world, that are offering programmes and facilities that offer caring, knowledgeable staff to support tourism and activities for the Autistic community.

Marshall Scuba, is the FIRST dive centre in the world, outside the United States,

to receive the CAC designation :-)

And that, makes us the FIRST and ONLY dive centre in the world that offers training for the Autistic, the Disabled, and professional training all the way to the Instructor level for Disability. And from now, all new instructor candidates will have the opportunity to participate in IBCCES training. Thus, helping to spread ASD awareness around the world of scuba.

For families and individuals who are interested in scuba diving, we recognise that every student is unique. Thus, a programme to teach the Autistic diver needs to be tailored to the specific student. This is something we do for each family, to ensure a positive, fun experience, that is safe, and achieves the absolute best educational and skilled outcome.

Simply not possible to outline all the different paths that are needed for each student. It starts with a conversation :-)

As a scuba training centre, we're using certification agencies that have complete programmes established to support teaching students with unique needs, and skill potential that may require restricted certification, that recognises what the student diver can do on their own.
