SPECIALTY COURSES

For our divers who are diving in the nearby waters of: the South China Sea, Java Sea, Sulu Sea, Celebes Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and the Andaman Sea, it's important to recognise that certain scuba specialty courses apply to these waters, and some courses don't.

So you won't find us offering such courses as Ice Diving, or Altitude Diving. But we are offering all the courses which have use and value in the region. Well, nearly all the courses. We do choose, to not offer some courses, but that's more related to philosophical issues than anything else. Maybe ask us over a sandwich sometime, during a surface interval ;-)

In the meantime, have a look, depending on your reasons for diving, there are definitely some specialty courses to enhance your skills and knowledge, which in turn makes you a more competent and comfortable diver, taking you to expert levels  :-)

Naturalist

A course about the Ocean Life that divers may observe on the reefs around the world

NAVIGATION

Never lose your way: The Navigation course builds on the natural and compass navigation skills you acquire as part of the Advanced Open Water Diver course. It provides an introduction to:

  • Small-area surveys.

  • Simple map making.

  • Using navigation in conjunction with other specialty activities.

These skills are valuable in a variety of diving situations — and are ones that every serious diver should have.

DRIFT DIVER

Currents and tides will have a tremendous impact on your diving experience This course provides the knowledge and skill practice that will assist you in having relaxed and safe dives in the currents around the world.

NIGHT DIVER

Diving After Dark: Why limit your diving to daylight hours when you can experience the wonder of what happens under water once the sun goes down? You can see:

  • Sleeping fish.

  • Coral feeding.

  • A rainbow of colors that look entirely different from what you are used to seeing during daylight hours.

Diving at night, however, entails more than just grabbing a light and going. Special planning, preparation, equipment and communication skills are needed — among others. Fortunately, the Night Diver course can provide you with these skills in a very short period of time.

WRECK DIVER

Many of the ocean's best dive sites have artificial reefs, or wrecks that have sunk through the ages. This program gives you the skills and knowledge required to safely scuba dive above and around these underwater treasures.

SEARCH & RECOVERY

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely plan and conduct search and recovery dives. You will learn about search patterns, specialized dive plans, underwater communication, and how to recover small to medium-sized objects using specialized equipment like lift bags.

DEEP DIVING

Not every dive has to be deep (but the best ones often are): Some of the best recreational diving takes place in water deeper than 20 m/65 ft. Such dives include wrecks and walls. The Deep Diver course builds on the skills you acquire as part of the Advanced Diver course to help enable you to make these dives safely and more effectively. Among the topics you will learn:

  • The purpose, problems, hazards, planning, preparation, equipment (additions and modifications), air supplies, personnel, techniques, gas management, emergency procedures (including location and transportation to a hyperbaric chamber) and depth limits for recreational diving.

  • Decompression-related topics include nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness (definition, cause, symptoms, signs, first aid and prevention) history of decompression, concepts, use of dive computers, definition of terms, problems, principles and techniques.

  • Complete coverage of advanced gas management, problem solutions, exceptions and dive planning are also included.

  • Altitude diving, flying after diving and hyperbaric chamber access and operation is included, as well as other short- and long-term deep diving hazards.

EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST

Protect Your Investment: Your dive equipment represents a substantial investment. It makes sense to learn how to get the best return on that investment. This is what the Equipment Specialist Course is all about. You learn:

  • Routine preparation and maintenance procedures you can perform before and after every dive that will prolong equipment life and reduce the need for professional service.

  • The best ways to transport and store your equipment and, thus, reduce the risk of damage.

  • What happens to regulators, BCs and tanks when you bring them in for annual service or inspection.

  • Emergency in-field repairs you can perform that may help save a dive or a trip — including wetsuit repairs (a must for every diver).

  • The latest developments in equipment technology, including BCs, regulators, dive computers and more.

Because diving is for sharing: If you think the digital era has revolutionized photography and video out of the water, wait until you discover what it has done for underwater imaging.

  • No longer do you need costly underwater cameras, expensive lights or pricey lenses to capture breathtaking underwater images.

  • There is no more buying film, paying for processing — or having to wait until you get home from vacation to discover how your images came out.

  • You don’t need to master complicated concepts such as f-stops, shutter speed, aperture and guide numbers.

All you need is an inexpensive, point-and-shoot digital camera and housing — and our Underwater Imaging course. We’ll not only show you how to capture breathtaking stills and video, but also how to share them on venues such as Facebook and You Tube.

DIGITAL IMAGING
